Born in Coldwater, Michigan predestined Jim to live the H2O lifestyle. He caught his first fish at the age of six months by noodling a goldfish out of the family Fishtank and then eating escargot from the same tank. To keep him quiet at a very young age his mother and father would place him on the end of the dock with a fishing pole and only a bare gold hook. Jim would still catch lots of panfish even with no bait as he grew older ages 3-8 he began hunting and fishing like Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett in Auburn, Indiana.
Those years of Field and Stream in Indiana paid off when his dad took a pastoral job in defiance Ohio.
The Mawmee and Auglaize rivers come together there and Jim spent many hours exploring the river banks Indian burial ground and fishing every lake pond and river he could. At 16 his family moved to Highland, California where the mighty Santa Ana river runs, Here he got his first nickname Joe Defiance because he looked like Joe Namath and came from Defiance, Ohio.
Jim was introduced to the Florida Keys by his dad’s cousin Tom Gingrich, Upon meeting new people in the keys Tom would introduce him as my cousin Jim and the nickname stuck. Cousin Jim has been running both back country and offshore charters for several years. I hope you and joy the information you find on this page.
